The Foundation is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, self-starter Secretariat Director.


Reporting to the Board of Directors, the  Secretariat Director will have overall operational responsibility for EASL International Liver Foundation staff, programmes, expansion, and execution of its mission, in line with the foundation’s strategy. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programmes, operations, and business/financial plans.

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous programme evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong board of directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee, seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for the national rollout
  • Actively engage and energize EILF volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Recruit, lead, coach, develop, and retain EILF’s team
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate programme components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programme operations and expansion around the world
  • Produce, deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.

Planning & New Business:

  • Design the national expansion and complete the strategic business planning process for the program expansion around the world
  • Build and expand partnerships around the world, establishing relationships with the funders and political, medical and community leaders
  • Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates EILF´s programme results with an emphasis on the successes of the local/pilot programme as a model for regional and national replication.


The Secretariat Director will be thoroughly committed to EILF´s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

  • Advanced degree, ideally an MBA, with at least 7-10 years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programmes and data-driven programme evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed

The Foundation is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, self-starter Program Portfolio Officer to support the planning, funding, execution, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of high quality programming across the Foundation’s areas of operation: research and development; medical education and general public awareness. S/he will report to the director and relevant Board members.

Project cycle management

  • Provide overall program coordination support
  • Collaborate with senior staff to establish program policies and procedures
  • Monitor program measures and metrics on a regular basis to ensure successful implementation and program quality
  • Create and manage service provider contracts as needed to ensure deliverables are met
  • Propose project budgets and provide regular budgetary reports
  • Establish/define program needs and purchase supplies on behalf of projects

Proposal writing

  • Support the Foundation’s strategic vision and direction through the production of relevant, responsive, high quality grant proposals that leverage the organization’s unique advantages, competencies, and resources
  • Contribute to the development of an advocacy strategy and operational plan and the crafting of advocacy messages and materials; ensure maximization of their relevance and resonance for key advocacy targets
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to generate proposal narrative and budgets
  • Lead submission timeline and coordination to ensure role clarity and timely submission
  • Respond to donor questions and feedback and revise proposals as needed

Donor reporting

  • Develop and manage deliverables for donors
  • Draft and manage calendar of reports due and individual timelines for each major report
  • Write narrative progress reports donors in coordination with other team members
  • Assemble budget and expenditure information and report information to donors as required in our agreements
  • Assemble stories from the projects in partnership with the Marketing & Communications manager
  • Respond to queries from donors on reports and progress

Information Management

  • Create and manage standardized project-related information gathering/synthesis, donor reporting, and other purposes (e.g., narrative, news items, press releases, financial, graphic, presentation, mapping, etc.)


  • Superior project management skills, ability to multi-task, efficiency, and initiative.
  • A well-established track record of critically contributing to the preparation and successful competition of relevant grant proposals
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English language (English mother tongue or bilingual)
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex scientific issues and be thoroughly familiar with the policies, guidelines and practices of relevant national and international funding agencies.
  • Advanced degrees (MD, MBA or PhD) would be viewed as additional strengths.
